Catching the Wind: Domestic Use Wind Turbines to Power your Building

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Now that sustainable technology is getting progressively adopted to the consumer sector new ways of doing things are becoming available. Urban farming is growing in popularity, electric vehicles are becoming viable and even new sources of energy for your household. No I’m not talking about solar energy but wind energy.

That’s right domestic use wind turbines are now an actuality. In countries like Germany these are starting to get wide adoption to meet household consumption needs. Even in the UK, one can now source domestic use wind turbines to power their buildings and complexes.

The main benefits of using wind turbines are savings that come from installing such a renewable source of energy. While there is an investment amount required - somewhere between 2 and 3 lakhs in INR - the savings from such an investment make up for the amount in a matter of a few years. Furthermore, these savings - and costs - accrue not to a single family but a neighbourhood.

While wide scale adoption across India is still a while away, the movement towards sustainable technology in developed countries outlines the path developing nations will follow as well. The added benefit is while the global north has to remove and replace existing power systems, much of the Indian countryside remains unelectrified. If costs for wind turbines continue to fall, we could be seeing turbine powered rural neighbourhoods in the years to come.
